Speech Audiometry (SRT / SDS)
Measures not just whether you hear speech, but how clearly you understand it.
About this service
Pure tones tell us what you can detect; speech audiometry tells us what you can actually make sense of. We establish your Speech Reception Threshold (the quietest level at which you correctly repeat words) and your Speech Discrimination Score (the percentage of words you identify correctly at a comfortable volume). Together these explain the common complaint of "I can hear people talking, I just can't understand them", and they strongly predict how much benefit a hearing aid will give.
