Immittance Audiometry (Tympanometry / Acoustic Reflexes)
Checks eardrum movement and middle ear pressure to find fluid, blockage or perforation.
About this service
A soft probe briefly varies the air pressure in the ear canal while measuring how the eardrum responds. This separates hearing loss caused by the middle ear, such as glue ear, a perforation, or Eustachian tube dysfunction, from hearing loss originating in the inner ear or nerve. Acoustic reflex testing adds information about the pathway from the middle ear to the brainstem. It takes only a couple of minutes per ear and needs no active response from you, which makes it well suited to young children.
