Brainstem Evoked Response Audiometry (BERA)
Objective hearing test that records the nerve's response, with no participation needed.
About this service
BERA records the electrical response of the auditory nerve and brainstem to sound through surface electrodes placed on the scalp. Because it needs no response from the patient, it is the reference test for newborns, for children who cannot be tested behaviourally, and where an accurate objective threshold is required for a disability certificate or cochlear implant work-up. It is completely painless; the main requirement is that the child is asleep or lying very still.
